5th International COSMOS Workshop

August 22nd-24th, 2016 in Copenhagen (Denmark)

COSMOS is the COsmic-ray Soil Moisture Observing System

Objectives
The cosmic-ray neutron method is an emerging and promising technology for non-destructive moisture measurements of the top 10-50 cm of the subsurface within a hectometer footprint. The fifth international COSMOS workshop will focus on the latest progress and current challenges of cosmic-ray neutron monitoring and modeling. Special focus will be on improvements of calibration, better understanding of neutron response to moisture changes, and new applications of the technique (e.g. snow depth studies, biomass estimation, irrigation strategies). The workshop will consist of invited and contributed oral presentations with ample time for discussions.

Venue and accommodation
The workshop will take place at The Forest and Landscape College situated in Nødebo approximately 40 km north of the Copenhagen city center. The venue includes workshop and accommodation facilities, providing a flexible, relaxed, and productive atmosphere.

Registration
Please let us know by May 15th, 2016 whether you are planning to attend. The registration fee will be approximately 3000 DKK (400 Euro / 440 USD) to cover the food and accommodation. There are only 28 rooms at the facility, so please register early to reserve one of them. Additional accommodation will be available within a short driving distance. We will provide transportation to and from the venue.

Transportation
We will also arrange bus transportation to and from the venue (Nødebovej 77A, 3480 Fredensborg) and the University of Copenhagen in the city centre (Øster Voldgade 10, 1350 Copenhagen C) at the beginning and the end of the workshop.
We are looking forward to an exciting gathering of scientists interested in the cosmic-ray method and its applications, as well as representatives from other international and national environmental research networks.
